Osmo hardwax oils offer a top quality treatment for wooden flooring, other internal and external woodwork. These are natural wood finishes with all the goodness of nature, made from natural oils and waxes, canauba wax, sunflower oil, candilla wax, thistle oil and more.
Osmo hardwax oils provide natural character, durability and protection for all interior and exterior timber. Wooden floors are often exposed to great stresses and strains, therefore they require extra protection and Osmo hardwax oils offer a very durable finish. This protection should not disturb or change the natural appearance of the wood‘s surface.
The range of Osmo hardwax oils provide this protection from within the wood itself, bringing the natural grain and character of the wood to life whilst offering maximum protection and allowing it to “breathe”. This helps to maintain its elastic surface qualities and allows it to compliment its environment. With Osmo natural wood finishes the wood surface retains its natural character and charm but also becomes abrasion, water and dirt resistant – a long lasting surface protection against those small daily mishaps.
420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra
Wood enhancement for exterior – satin-matt – clear & Oak
Product Description: Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra is a satin-matt, clear finish for exterior application with a great variety of uses. It is natural oil based and micro-porous, and does not crack, flake, peel or blister. When used as a final finish after staining wood Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra prolongs the renovation time significantly.
However, when used as a complete finish by itself it blocks the greying process by UV-Protection factor 12 in comparison to untreated wood. To freshen up simply apply a further coat onto the dry, clean surface (no sanding – no dust).
Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra is water and dirt resistant. It is moisture regulating and reduces swelling and shrinking of the wood. Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra has a large coverage, is easy to apply and easy to maintain. Oil enhances the natural tone of wood (wet look).
Product based on natural oil
Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra is based on natural vegetable oils. Natural oils penetrate deeply into the wood, keeping it elastic and healthy, and preventing it from drying and becoming brittle. The wood is allowed to breathe. Moisture can evaporate. Shrinking and swelling are reduced.
Application range: As a satin-matt finish (1 coat) can be applied on all Osmo exterior products such as One Coat Only HSPlus, Wood Stain Protector or Country Colour on claddings, doors, windows, window shutters, balcony claddings, decking and garden furniture. Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra is also an additional weathering protection and prolongs the durability of the finish.
Complete finish (2 coats) for wood surfaces that should retain its natural appearance. Ideal for roof overhangs, claddings, doors, windows, window shutters, balcony claddings, garden furniture and above-water wood in boat construction (mast, rail etc). For exotic woods we recommend a trial coat.
Can sizes: 0.75L & 2.5L or
750ml & 2.5 Litres
Coverage: 1L = approx. 16 m² (1 coat smooth wood)
1L = approx. 12 m² (2 coats smooth wood)
Stripped and rough sawn wood needs more material because of their surface structure.
Advice: When used as a complete finish (2 coats) the overall application amount of 1 l on 12 m² must be followed, as a reduced quantity means having a reduced UV-Protection and thus lead to a shorter renovation time.
Number of Coats Required:
1 coat = final finish/primer
2 coats = complete finish
Storage: Shelf life is 5 years or more if can is tightly closed. If thickened by frost, it will regain its consistency under normal temperatures within 26 – 36 hours.
Preparation: Wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (maximum moisture content 20%). Remove old varnishes. If additional protection against blue stain, rot and mildew is required for outdoors pre-treat (if possible from all sides) with Osmo Base Coat WR*.
Apply final finish after 12-24 hours drying time.
Advice: Fungal decay and algae on old wood surfaces can easily be removed with Osmo Gard Clean* (Green Growth Remover)
(* Use biocides safely! Always read the label and product information before use).
There should be a minimum 15 degree angle on architectural joinery on the horizontal e.g.
windowsills. Sharp edges have to be rounded (corner radius > 2 mm).
Application: Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil is ready to use. Please do not thin – stir well.
Apply with stiff brush (Osmo Natural Bristle Brush) or Osmo Microfibre Roller thinly and evenly along wood grain. Allow extra ventilation when applying in enclosed spaces. When used as a complete finish apply second coat after drying. The finish is – among other things – influenced by the woods natural characteristics, therefore a trial application is required before finishing.
Cleaning of Tools: Clean working utensils with Osmo Brush Cleaner (benzene-free).
Drying Time: approx. 12 hours (dust dry in approx. 4 hours). Allow for good ventilation when used interiorly.
Renovation: Depending on the level of weathering apply 1 coat of Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra after approx. 3 – 4 years on the cleaned and intact finish. In general, one has to take a shorter renovation time into account when surfaces are exposed to extreme weathering and surfaces where water cannot drain (horizontal surfaces). For some timber species, which have water-soluble ingredients (e.g. Oak or Idigbo), and in some extreme locations the finish may require re-coating more regularly to maintain the unique protection qualities of this product. If, however, the greying process has already begun revive the surface with the Osmo Wood Reviver and re-apply with 2 coats of the Osmo 420 UV-Protection-Oil Extra.
Advice: Damage caused during installation (fixing holes/cut edges) and other surface damages e.g. crack should be treated immediately with two coats. These areas will grey quickly if left untreated.
